Eco-friendly coolers now in use for home-delivery specialty pharmacy orders
In response to patients’ feedback and to honor our sustainability commitments, Allina Health Pharmacy has begun shipping temperature-controlled medications to patients’ homes in eco-friendly coolers. The new coolers are called CCT Rx Naturals and manufactured by Cold Chain Technologies.
Each month, Allina Health pharmacy ships approximately 1,000 coolers containing temperature-controlled medications to patients’ homes. Until recently, we used Styrofoam coolers, which is the industry standard but not ideal. Styrofoam coolers cannot be recycled and do not decompose for hundreds of years. Our Pharmacy team attempted to find suitable solutions in the past, but the available products didn’t meet requirements.
With this transition, we’ll keep 12,000 Styrofoam coolers out landfills each year and delight thousands of Specialty Pharmacy patients.
